This is a question that I get asked from exercise class members and clients time and time again. You may have many different reasons for wanting to exercise, it may be due to social aspects, the feel-good factor, to be healthier or simply for a hobby but the main reason to why people exercise is because they want to make changes to their body. This means people want to see changes and get results. It is, therefore, a very valid question of how many times should I exercise to see real noticeable changes to my body?
Firstly let’s look at the current UKs guidelines on the amount of physical activity recommended per week (Department of Health, 2011)
•Adults aged 19-64 years old should perform at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more per week.
•They should undertake physical activity to improve muscle strength on at least two days per week.
•Alternatively, comparable benefits can be achieved through 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity that is distributed across the week.
